Ten Things You Might Not Know About Me

In May I participated in a blogging challenge that encouraged you to blog about a specific topic each day. I have to admit that I enjoyed it (although I didn't do every single day...) because it drew my blog posts towards a direction that I hadn't gone before. I tend to post a lot of posts that are lifestyle-centered, but aren't as personal as they could be. The challenge got me excited about being more personal in my posts. It's funny because a blog, by nature, is a personal thing. But despite that, you can still have a personal blog without it being a "personal" blog. Am I rambling now? I'll stop now...

What I'm trying to say in a really roundabout way, is that the challenge made me want to focus on injecting more of myself into my blog posts than I have in the past. Before I started the May challenge, I was beginning loosing any enjoyment in blogging that I had. It was making me stressed out! It's so easy to get lost in the spiral of comparison with other bloggers that you become nothing more than a blog-hop, giveaway, link-up machine; any real sense of you has gotten lost in the desire to expand your readership. So I've given up, so to speak; I'm done trying to force this thing to be something that it's not. I'm going back to the reason that I started in the first place: me.

Do you love this really old picture of me? And no...that's not our car.
1. I've never been one of those people who knew what they wanted to be "when they grew up." I'm very aware of my interests and strengths and tend to follow them where they take me.

2. I have a deathly fear of elevators. Yes, you read that right. Elevators- those things that are supposed to make going up multiple stories more easy. I won't get in them. Remember that movie "Devil" that came out a couple years ago about 5 people who get stuck in an elevator and subsequently killed off by Satan? I went and saw it in an attempt to break my irrational fear... it didn't work. I don't think I slept for weeks.

3. Two features I dislike most about myself: my nose and my feet. Both are too big.

4. I'm obsessed with cheese (see really old picture below). See that expression? That pretty much sums it up.

5. I never believed in Santa Claus. *gasp!*

6. I am mildly obsessed with Kate Middleton and Jennifer Lawrence.

7. I am not-so-mildly (aka completely) obsessed with Doctor Who.

8. The "hugging" scene at the end of every single Saturday Night Live episode makes me very uncomfortable. I mean, come on, really?? I like to single out one cast member and watch as they scramble to find someone to hug so that they don't look like the lonely kid no one wants to play with at recess. It's just weird.

9. Brussel sprouts are the most disgusting vegetable on the planet.

10. "Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail" is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Hands down!

I'd love it if you'd leave one random fact about yourself in the comments below!

  1. Thought I just commented but I am not sure if it went through. lol Anyway, loved this post and equally dislike elevators but only because I'm claustrophobic and always imagine getting stuck in there forever.

Random fact about me, I can't swim lol

  2. fun post! i like posts that are a little more personal :) a fact about me: i never saw the 'classic movies that everyone has to see', like grease, titanic, the godfather.. and monthy python ^^

  3. I feel the same way about blogging. It's fun getting new followers, but you can quickly lose purpose in all the hoopla. I also feel the same way about the SNL ending- so awkward. If I was a cast member I would totally accost the celebrity guests/and or musicians.
My random fact- I am acutely aware of every worst case scenario ever (zombie apocalypse, terrorist attack, etc.) and I frequently think through what I would do in such situations, just so i'm always prepared.

  4. The strength of your blog it how genuine it is. It's so refreshing.

Ditto number one on your list. And I think that's okay.

As for a random fact, well, hmm. My mum and I once got lost in a graveyard in Prague looking for the grave of the man who invented the word robot. We did find it eventually though, and it was beautiful (no robots though).

  5. Thank you so much for leaving this amazing comment! First of all, that's totally awesome that your mom was an extra in that film! The wedding scene is outrageous... Monty Python humor at its finest! I bet she has some crazy stories about the cast!
I can completely relate to your fear of escalators... I believe that's where my fear of elevators was first developed. Your story made me laugh because I can definitely see that in my mind's eye :D

  6. Hey that's pretty smart! If I was homeless in Paris that's about what I'd do too ;-) Did you take him up on his offer? Hehe.

  7. Oooh time for another random fact. I've been to Pere Lachaise, and a homeless guy charged me money to show me where the 'famous' graves were. I figured he had a pretty good business model going on.

  8. I just found your blog Elise and I love it, you seem really genuine and funny. I totally agree, brussel sprouts are disgusting (I always end up feeding them to my dogs at Christmas).

Random fact - I'm actually afraid of escalators, I didn't get both feet on fast enough once when I was little and ended up half hopping, half doing the splits down them until someone pressed the emergency stop button for me. I can get on them, but I have to stand for a good ten seconds at the top and take a couple of deep breaths before I get on.

Oh, and another one. My Mum was actually an extra in The Holy Grail. It was filmed near her in Stirling the Summer after she finished high school and she is one of the bridesmaids in the wedding scene. I was shown it when I was far too young and used to have nightmares about it. I didn't appreciate quite how cool it was until I was in my late teens xo

  9. Thank you, I feel the same way about your blog! Your random fact sounds amazing! I love graveyards, especially when you're looking for someone specific. This is so cliched, but I'd love to someday visit Père Lachaise cemetery and see the grave of Oscar Wilde, Caillebotte, and Gertrude Stein!

  10. Blog hops and stuff are great way to meet new bloggers. I've met some great people through them. But sometimes you start to feel like you need to do them all the time, every day to become this amazing blogger. Meh... I'm just going to keep having fun with this :)
That's so funny! Now I'm curious, what would you do in a zombie apocalypse? :D

  11. Thanks! You HAVE to see all of those movies that you listed! ;-) Monty Python is just beyond funny. It's such a silly movie, but it's also very smart. I love it.

  12. I'm claustrophobic too! But I'm usually able to push through it; there's just something about elevators that I just cannot do! Thanks for stopping by :D
