Link Love: Free Photoshop Actions and Tutorials from Alex Beadon

When I began blogging, I had no idea that it would inextricably lead me back into graphic design and photography. I knew there would be some elements of design and editing involved, but it wasn't until I really dove into the established blogging community that I began to take note of true design and photo taking/editing.

My first major in college was graphic design, but then I had a horrible instructor and horrible class (we lost our work after every class session because they were reworking the Mac labs at that particular university... hello, some of this stuff takes hours to make, we can't just whip it up by next class!). I think I just got overwhelmed. So I promptly changed my major to something I felt comfortable with: English. Don't get me wrong, literature and writing are the loves of my life, but part of me wishes that I would have given design a second chance. Either way, I'm back and have rolled up my sleeves, more than willing to get my hands dirty with what lies ahead.

But let's be honest- the software is incredibly expensive for my post-college income, which is why I was elated when uber-talented photographer and blogger, Alex Beadon, announced that she'd be hosting a Photoshop tutorial for free (this is not typical; usually people charge for workshops or classes of this kind). Not only is she hosting tutorials, but she's giving some of her Photoshop actions for free to use with the class AND gave a link to where we can download older versions of Adobe products for free through the Adobe website. They give you access to InDesign, Illustrator, CS2, etc. Again, they are older versions (CS2 version) but I'm excited to practice the basics of an older version than blow hundreds of dollars on something I have no idea how to use. So that's exactly what I did!

I wanted to be sure that I shared all of this in case any of you out there wanted to view the tutorials and free downloads. Happy creating! :)

  7. Free tutorials, ya dancer.

I've gotten used to using GIMP and Inkscape lately. I'm not sure there is a discernible difference in the quality of the output, though maybe an expert could tell me.
